“Belt and Road: What Does It Have to Do with Me?” Integrated Skills Competition 2026

Competition Highlights This contest was far more than rote memorization. In the morning, participants attended expert lectures on the 15th Five-Year Plan, green technology, and the digital economy. In the afternoon, they were required to draw a topic on the spot and, with only thirty-five minutes of preparation, present proposals to the Chief Executive, Mr. John Lee, on how university education could align with national development. Despite the immense pressure, our students rose to the challenge with remarkable composure.

Why Does the Belt and Road Matter? The pre-competition seminars emphasized that Hong Kong’s future opportunities lie in the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area. Students must familiarize themselves with emerging markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia, and learn how to support Hong Kong enterprises in “going global.” Knowledge of green technology and innovation will be central to future university education.

Prizes and Opportunities Beyond trophies and certificates, the winners will have the opportunity to join a study tour to Kazakhstan, experiencing local culture and development firsthand—truly embodying the spirit of “reading ten thousand books and traveling ten thousand miles.”

 Student Reflections

  • Leung Tsz Wah: “I realized the 15th Five-Year Plan is not distant at all—it can genuinely guide my future path.”

  • Wong Kai Chi: “The most exciting part was brainstorming with teammates under the thirty-five-minute time limit—it was intense yet thrilling.”

  • Lee Wai Ming: “I hope one day I can contribute to the nation. Understanding comes first.”

Post-Competition Group Photo The three students beamed with joy, and the team leader remarked: “They are our pride.”

Message to All Study the national plans, understand the country’s development, and opportunities will abound. Next year, the challenge awaits you!
