28MAY
“Smoke-Free Sports Day” 2026

The World Health Organization designates May 31 each year as “World No Tobacco Day.” This year’s theme is: “Protecting from Manipulation: Combating Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction”, aiming to expose how the tobacco and nicotine product industries develop new products to attract the next generation while evading increasingly strict global tobacco control measures.

In Hong Kong, the Council on Smoking and Health has launched promotional activities under the theme “Unmask Tobacco Temptations, Unite for a Smoke-Free Future.” At the same time, it is organizing “Smoke-Free Sports Day,” inviting all citizens to respond on May 31 by engaging in more physical exercise. The goal is to spread smoke-free messages, encourage smokers to quit through sports, and foster an atmosphere that supports quitting, while enjoying a healthy smoke-free lifestyle with family and friends.

Staff and students are encouraged to show their support by wearing running gear or sportswear on Thursday, May 28, in response to “Smoke-Free Sports Day.”
